This unique pose of two mating snails reflects the symmetry of this interlude and union. Circular curves of snail shells inspired me to sculpt these often overlooked creatures. Initially, I sculpted Courtship from Utah alabaster and then felt compelled to replicate the coloration of the stone in a bronze patina. Courtship has been juried into the 2006 Society of Animal Artists (SAA) Art and the Animal museum tour, the 2008 Bennington Center for the Arts , Art of the Animal XIII museum exhibit and in 2009 awarded National Sculpture Society’s (NSS) C. Percival Dietsch Prize for best sculpture in the round and on the 76th NSS Annual Exhibition.
